Professor X Main Character Level 1

Professor X is the grand strategist pacifist, picking and choosing mutants to attend his school for gifted youngsters. He has the power to control minds yet he gives his students free will and free reign rather than trying to force them under his command. How does his character stack up for VS2PCG?

In those senses, Professor X MC closely resembles his comic book character with his abilities. He helps search for characters to recruit, he tries to be the pacifist as much as he can and only mind controls as a last resort.

Leveling

Level up (4) A Dream of Peace: At the end of your turn, if you didn't make any attacks this turn, Professor X gains an XP.

Unlike the other MC's in the game for X-Men so far, Professor X gets XP from not attacking with any of your characters. A stark contrast when all of the other current X-Men MCs want to attack aggressively. It is a very flavorful and unique level up condition that is very fitting for Professor X.

As a 2/4 with 5 health, this forces you to play a very defensive game that can be very difficult to not fall behind too far on the board to which point you cannot recover from. While you are not attacking, your opponent is going to be trying their best to KO everything you have. With only 4 defense and 5 health it is very hard to keep him around very long. If you don't start attacking till turn 5 and your opponent has 5-7 health, it is going to be a turn 10-12 game or longer most of the time. There are ways to give multiple wounds so that is an option but your opponent may have those as well.

Abilities used during the main phase are not considered attacks so you still can use characters such as Yondu and still get XP.

Super Powers

Level 1 Power: Cerebro - Build Energy Symbol: Reveal the top five cards of your deck. Put a character from among them into your hand and the rest on the bottom in any order.

The ability to have card selection and find the character you need is great. Combo decks do very well with card selection and also hitting a strong curve in any deck also helps.

This being a build phase ability means that you can only activate it during that phase, however you can do it at any time during the build phase so before you even play a resource so you can decide which resource you need to play based on the character you are going to play and the state of the board.

Professor X Main Character Level 1

Level 2 Power: Mental Domination - MainIntellect Symbol: Ready a face-up enemy character and move it to your front or back row. At the end of your turn, move it back.

This is a very strong ability for only a yellow resource. You could attack your opponent with their own character and end up stunning them both in some situations though it is more likely you are getting at least one stun out of the use of this. The great thing is that you can even take your opponents MC with this ability. This ability lets you make up ground for not attacking the first few turns to level him up.

For reference, any changes in counters, wounds or any other effects stay on the card after you return the character you took control of. If their character is KO'd, you don't have to return it. If it is Ko'd it goes to its owners KO pile.

Deck Construction

For deck construction we want to very defensive and try to keep as large of a board presence at the same time. Using abilities that can gain or help hold board presence are also typically strong in a Professor X deck. You will need to stall the game very late and be able to protect Professor X at the same time which can be a challenge depending on what deck you are facing, and then be able to still close out and win the game after that.

Achieving a balance of defense and inevitable offense is very hard to achieve. You will have to branch out to different teams with Professor X as SC wise, his character is the 7 drop and lacking any 7 or 8 drop I don't really see many decks being able to slow down and outlast your opponent while still protecting your MC into turns 10 and above.
